Customer permission to call: how to ask and how long it lasts

Meta's rule: on an official line a business does not call first until the customer agrees. The customer agrees once, in WhatsApp itself, by pressing a button in our message. On our line (ordinary WhatsApp) this is not needed — read on only for the official line.

  1. Start a call as usual. If there is no permission, the «Call permission request» window opens with the hint «The customer has not allowed calls yet.»
  2. Choose a request template. If the list is empty («This line has no approved call permission template.»), create one: when creating the template turn on «Request permission to call» — WhatsApp templates.
  3. Press «Send request». The customer gets a WhatsApp message with an «Allow WhatsApp calls» button. After sending you see «Request sent.»
  4. When the customer presses the button you get «The client allowed calls — you can call.» Call.
Meta ruleWhat it means for you
The request is a template messageIt is paid at Meta's rates, like other templates
No more than 1 request a day and 2 in 7 days to one customerA repeat request too soon is refused: «A request was already sent to this client. Wait for the answer in the chat.»
A temporary permission lasts 7 days, a permanent one is possibleAfter a week you need it again, unless it is permanent
2 unanswered calls in a row — the customer gets a reminder; 4 — the permission is withdrawnSo do not keep dialling: after the fourth unanswered call you must ask again
